Roulette started life as a French game first devised by mathematician Blaise Pascal in the 17th Century. The name Roulette is derived from the French word for ?small wheel? referring to the Roulette Wheel.
In the 1800?s, the game became popular in Monaco when Prince Charles of Monaco introduced gambling on Roulette to the people as a means of aiding the financial problems that his country was experiencing. In 1842 brothers Francois and Loius Blanc changed the game to a single zero, replacing the original game which used a single zero and a double zero.
The game was eventually bought to America after this, and the American public rejected to move to a single-zero Roulette game, preferring the double-zero game that is now played all over America.
The single-zero, or European, Roulette remains popular around Europe and other countries because of its lesser house margin. With a single zero, this game does give players a better chance of winning because there?s only 37 numbers, instead of 38. Most online casinos offer Roulette in both the European and American version.
Whichever version of Roulette you decide to play, the game is always exciting. And with it?s long history and heritage, the game remains popular in today?s casinos because it allows a lot of players to bet on the same game at the same time, as well as letting players sit back and take a break from the game at any time.
